Can a black hole absorb another black hole?

What if there are two black holes nearby in the universe?

Asker: Ilse, 37 years old

Answer

Black holes contain mass and consequently they attract each other. Eventually they will merge and form one large black hole. If there is a lot of other matter around those black holes, it will give a huge cosmic fireworks with, especially, a lot of high-energy radiation.
