And is there a maximum speed that humans can handle at which they can still function normally.
Answer
Hi Karel,
The speed is not that important on the human body, it is the accelerations that are dangerous. Still a big difference. Think of the launch of a rocket. The accelerations experienced by a space traveler are greater than 3g (3 times the earth’s acceleration – 9,80665 m/s2 in Ostend). The human body can withstand an acceleration of 43g for a very short time! But for an ordinary person, 3g for a few minutes is just manageable with a good condition. Not to mention the painful negative g’s.
By the way, the maximum speed that man has reached is of course above the escape speed of the earth and that is more than 11.2 kilometers per second! I don’t think speed cameras will register this anymore..
