In the past it was always said that it was necessary not to load the car too much in the beginning, after a while to let the engine do a lot of revolutions.
Is this still necessary with modern cars?

Answer
Hi Bart,
That is no longer really necessary these days.
The redding was to carefully fit the cylinders into the engine block. With a new engine those parts do not always fit perfectly to guarantee a smooth running and that is why the fit was made a little too tight and that it then had to wear to a perfectly fitting whole, that is why you could break the engine from the beginning to go for full load immediately.
Thanks to modern techniques, this fit is now almost perfect and the piston and the engine block are also hardened well in the factory so that there is little to wear. It never hurts to take it easy with a new engine in the beginning, but in principle it is no longer necessary.
