How can I merge my C drive and my new E drive from my hard drive?

My C drive is almost completely full and I have created a new volume and now would like to merge these two spaces.

How do I do that?

Hi Dimitri,

It depends a bit on what you mean by “new volume”. I understand that your C drive is almost full and you have somehow created extra disk space.

(1) If you have inserted a new separate hard disk into your computer, there is no way to combine the two disks. In principle you could use the so-called RAID technology, but that is not so simple and also not cheap.

(2) If the two volumes are parts of one physical hard drive, you can combine them. You can do this in Windows Vista via “Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Disk Management”. You right click on “C:” and then choose “Extend” and then you have to enter how much you want to enlarge the C drive.

WARNING: Be careful with this one. If you do something wrong, you can easily lose all your data. So I strongly recommend that you make a backup of all your data before you try this. Maybe you can also do it with someone who knows more about it…

Greetings,

Philippe
