Giraffes and zebras don’t really have much in common, except that they both live on the African savannas.
Giraffes belong to a group of mammals called the even-toed ungulates. They are ruminants, just as cows, sheep and goats are. Zebras, on the other hand, are odd-toed ungulates, and are related to horses. If we look at evolution, you could even say that giraffes have more in common with hippos than with zebras!
Funnily enough, the okapi, a mammal that also has stripes like the zebra, is actually a kind of giraffe, which makes it confusing.
