Do black flowers exist?

It is striking that flowers have all colors. Only really black flowers are missing, I think…

Answer

There are indeed “black” flowers, for example the black bat plant (Tacca chantrieri, see link). They have also succeeded in growing “black” tulips, roses and other “black” flowers (see photos). However, these flowers do not contain black pigment, which simply does not exist in the plant kingdom (just as birds can be bright green, red, yellow and orange, but mammals cannot). They are usually just very dark red, brown or purple flowers. The search for the black rose and tulip has fascinated many people for centuries.
