What are Hybrid Plants?

What are Hybrids? What are its pros and cons?

Asker: Gaston, 55 years old

Answer

Hybrids are crosses between two different inbred lines of the same crop.
Hybrids are often larger, stronger and more pronounced in their interesting characteristics than the parent crops.
In contrast, their seeds do not exhibit enough of these desirable traits or the hybrids themselves are not fertile. Hybrids are therefore not useful in further cultivation. The farmer must therefore purchase new (hybrid) seeds every year.
