It is generally thought that doctors write unclearly. Is this true? And why?

As a medical student, I often get the question from others why doctors write so unclearly. I don’t have an answer for that myself.

I notice it too and I have no conclusive explanation for it. I am a doctor myself, but I write quite clearly……

Could it be a remnant of the time when medicine still belonged in part to magic and thus to a mysterious inaccessibility reserved for the initiated?
