My chickens are losing their eggs. How can I fix that? They have a clean room that is water and windproof. She used to put it there, but not anymore. They have a course of 4ha. I’ve done that but found nothing. How can I get my chickens back in their coop to lay eggs in their nest?
thank you
Answer
Dear Miranda,
I am not a chicken breeder but have had chickens for years. A few tips:
1) Provide enough nest boxes for your chickens. I have 1 nest box per 2 chickens.
2) Make sure your nest boxes are big enough (I have converted wine boxes myself and they prefer them to bought metal ones)
3) Provide straw or hay in your nest boxes
4) Have young chickens trained by older ones (both for going to roost in the room and for laying eggs)
5) With only new chickens (or always): lock those animals in the coop for a day or two so that they learn that this is their home and they have to return here.
6) Lay a lime egg. Chickens tend to lay eggs.
I don’t know what the influence of 4 hectares is.
