How big are dolphins?

Are they taller than humans?

What is the ratio?

Asker: cat, 11 years old

Answer

There are different types of dolphins all over the world, and they are all different in size.

In our Belgian part of the North Sea, mainly harbor porpoises, a small dolphin-like species. A porpoise is 1 m to 1.80 m long, about the size of a human being.
White-beaked dolphins can grow up to 3 m (about 250 kg) and bottlenose dolphins (the dolphins they often keep in dolphinariums) up to 4 m (over 300 kg!).
On the website of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (MUMM) you can see which marine mammals, especially porpoises, wash up on our coast.
