Can people have the same DNA and therefore look identical to each other?

If people have exactly the same DNA, they would also look identical. However, there are so many variations in the DNA that it is impossible to find two people with the exact same DNA. You always get half the DNA from your father and half from your mother. ‘This half’ is randomly selected so that two sisters or brothers could be very similar, but never exactly the same.

One major exception to this is identical twins. The division takes place after fertilization. One embryo is then split into two. These two embryos do have the same genetic material (DNA). This is why identical twins look so much alike (‘identical’).
