Found in the attic behind the closed plaster wall on a rolled up piece of gauze. There was also an old one on it that was gray and decayed. I think it’s a wasp but I’m curious which one and why the nest was not used (I think).

this is the initial stage of the nest of a paper wasp (Vespula). Probably the queen who started it gave up for some reason or maybe she died.
