If a chicken lays an egg, is the next egg already fertilized?

I found in a chicken coop where there was a rooster, a hen and chicks

eggs I took with me, but I don’t know if they are fertilized or not?

Answer

Geraldine,

If there is a rooster with the chicken and the chicks are from the chicken, then you can count on it that the eggs are fertilized.

You cannot tell from an egg itself whether it is fertilized, but you can candle eggs after 5 days of incubation. Candling is illuminating the egg with a strong light. Fertilized eggs then show a dark dot and a red cobweb of blood vessels.
