Touch ID is a super convenient way to log in to your iPhone, iPad or MacBook. In general, the login method works very quickly and smoothly, but sometimes this is not the case. We explain how you can solve problems with Apple’s fingerprint scanner.
Not every iPhone, iPad or MacBook has Touch ID, but if you do have one with this login method, it is annoying if the function does not work. It is often difficult to find out the reason for this. Still, there are a number of things you can try to get the fingerprint scanner to do its job again. We’ll walk you through it.
Troubleshoot Touch ID issues
If Touch ID does not work (properly) on your iPhone, iPad or MacBook, the following tips can help you. Rotate your finger left and right when you place it on the fingerprint scanner. This way you can be sure that the entire surface of your finger is being scanned.
Another tip is to clean your hands and clean the Touch ID sensor of your iPhone, iPad or MacBook. You may have sweat or dirt on your fingers or on the sensor. This can disrupt the login process.

Reset fingerprints
Something may have gone wrong with your fingerprint setup. There is then nothing to do but register another fingerprint. Log in to your device with your password or PIN. On an iPhone or iPad, go to Institutions and press Touch ID and passcode. Press Add a fingerprint and follow the steps on the screen.
On a MacBook, go to the Apple menu and click System settings. Scroll down and click Touch ID and password. Then click Add fingerprint and follow the instructions on the screen.
