Nice and relaxed to your destination.

If you have a car, then Apple CarPlay is of course a magnificent addition. Apple’s platform makes in-car apps work great. For electric cars, the platform goes one step further. These apps should certainly not be missing.
An electric car is of course very nice to drive. However, you may run into a specific problem: charging your car. So you have to look for a charging station. Fortunately, there are a number of apps on CarPlay that take those worries off your hands.
Special apps for electric cars on Apple CarPlay
Apple CarPlay is of course available in a number of different electric cars. You will find the system in the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Kia EV6, for example. But which apps do you need on it. Here they are.
Google Maps in the electric car
The most used app in the car is Google Maps. Logical, because the company brings magisterial navigation, while it costs nothing at all. But it can do much more than just find the way. This is how it finds the most efficient route for electric cars. In addition, you can also easily find charging stations on it. Handy if you need to recharge!

Charge map
Chargemap goes a step further on Apple CarPlay. With the app you can even search for a route and plan the charging points. Moreover, the app is very user-friendly and has its own community. For example, users keep each other informed by sending each other photos and messages about charging stations.
ABRP
Do you want to go abroad with your electric car. Then finding a good route can be very difficult. In the Netherlands there are of course charging stations in abundance, but in other countries that is sometimes a lot less the case. Fortunately, ABRP helps you with that on Apple CarPlay.
In the app you indicate which electric car you have, so it knows exactly what your range is. Based on that, it plans your ideal route and also adds charging stops. It also takes into account the charging times, so you know exactly how long you’ve been on the road.
Smoov
If you are only looking for a charging station for your electric car, you might be better off using Smoov. This app shows where they are exactly. The handy thing about this app is that it shows a Google Streetview photo so you know exactly where to look. That of course takes away a lot of frustration. The app for Apple CarPlay can be found here.

Apple Maps for CarPlay
Apple’s own Maps app should of course not be missing, but there is a big but. It has some perfect features that are really a huge addition. So here comes the real big but: they now only work with the electric Ford Mustang.
For example, Apple Maps indicates exactly what percentage the battery has for that vehicle and creates an ideal route based on how much energy the car consumes. Something that you know from ABRP (A Better Route Planner). Hopefully, Apple will also soon roll out the CarPlay function to other electric cars.
