Loyal Apple users know that January 24 is the birthday of the Mac. In 1984, the Macintosch 128k appeared with an all-in-one design, as the current iMac still is.
In 2024, the Mac celebrated its fortieth anniversary, which was a reason for Apple to add a new dynamic wallpaper and screen saver to macOS. The new Macintosh wallpaper is available as standard from macOS Sequoia.
Macintosh Retro graphics wallpaper and screensaver
macOS Sequoia features the new dynamic Macintosh wallpaper that can also be used as a screen saver. These consist of animated classic Mac icons that move diagonally on a colored background. All this gives a retro feeling that will appeal to many Mac users from the very beginning. Well-known old Mac icons such as the dogcow, bomb, trash can, MacPaint and recognizable windows are featured.
There are both light and dark versions of the screen saver and wallpaper available. You can also choose from different color options such as Spectrum, Accent, Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow, Dark Gray, Gray, Green, Orange. If you can’t decide, you can let your Mac choose a random color.
Activate the Macintosh dynamic wallpaper
You can activate the new Macintosh dynamic wallpaper and/or screensaver from the system settings of your Mac. The condition for this is that your Mac has macOS Sequoia or newer. Follow the simple steps below to activate the Macintosh screen saver/wallpaper.
- Go to  ▸ System Settings.
- In the left column, select Wallpaper or Screen Saver
- Under Dynamic wallpapers or screen saver, select Macintosh
After selecting, you can adjust the background or screen saver at the top right of the window. You can select a fixed color and optionally indicate whether you want to use the dark or light version.
