eSIM is the future, thanks to this digital SIM card you can use dual SIM on the latest generation of iPhones. This allows you to use two telephone numbers on just one device. eSIM was already available from Simyo, but only for subscriptions. From now on, new prepaid numbers can also activate the service.
If you have always been interested in a second telephone number, then Simyo’s prepaid offer is an interesting choice. You can request a second telephone number with calling credit for €5. This will then be activated on your iPhone using eSIM. eSim is available on the iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.
The second number is separate from your current number and thanks to Apple’s feature you can easily use ‘dual-SIM, dual standby’.
What is dual SIM, dual standby for iPhone?
Most smartphones that support dual SIM can only activate one SIM card at a time. This means that when one SIM card is active, you are unreachable on the other. This is not the case for Apple’s dual-SIM variant. The technology is called ‘dual-SIM, dual stand-by’ (DSDS) and ensures that you can receive calls on both telephone numbers and can decide for yourself which data plan you use to make calls or send messages. Try out eSIM via Simyo
Are you interested in a second telephone number, but do not want to be tied to a subscription? Then you can try Simyo’s eSIM options. KPN’s subsidiary now also offers prepaid numbers for eSIM. This means that you can request a second telephone number with calling credit for just €5 and activate it via eSIM on your iPhone.
The second telephone number will then be activated on your iPhone via the digital SIM card and your current physical SIM card will be retained. Below we explain how you can request and activate Simyo’s Prepaid eSIM.
Order prepaid eSIM from Simyo
- Open Simyo’s eSIM prepaid page
- Choose your calling credit (now with a discount!)
- Click on ‘Order’
- Choose eSIM and enter your personal details
After you have made the payment, your eSIM and new telephone number have been requested. You will then receive an email with the login details for the My Simyo app. Install it on your iPhone and follow the steps below.

Activate and set up Simyo eSIM
- Open the My Simyo app
- Log in with the login details you received via email
- Read the home screen and proceed
- Choose ‘Two SIM cards at the same time’
- Continue and read the next steps
- Tap ‘Set up eSIM’
- Apple’s eSIM activation process will now start
- Tap Continue, then tap Add Mobile Plan
- Follow the steps on the screen
For example, you can change the name of your second subscription from secondary to Simyo. Then choose a standard line, this is the telephone number that is always used. You can also set this for iMessage, FaceTime, your Apple ID and mobile data. Via the contacts app you can indicate which line a contact should use; if you do not do this, the default line will be used.
Once you have completed the steps above, your second telephone number will be activated and you can use it. You can check the status of the connection via the control panel, and the signal symbol in the status bar has now been updated. Finally, you can go through some additional steps via the Simyo app, such as setting a new password and access code for the app.
Using Dual SIM on an iPhone
As mentioned earlier, both telephone numbers remain active when you activate dual-SIM. This means you can always receive and make calls without any hassle, everything is automatically arranged by iOS and you don’t have to worry about it.
However, you can only use one number at a time for mobile data. All data traffic therefore only goes through one subscription.
