Add audio recordings to notes

Since iOS 18, iPados 18 and MacOS Sequoia, it is possible in the notes app to add audio recordings to a note.

An audio recording is useful as a memory support because it offers accurate recording of conversations and lectures, where important details are not lost. It allows you to fully concentrate on the content without being distracted by making notes.

Moreover, you can listen to a recording at any time, which helps to repeat and better remember information. This makes audio recordings in the notes app a valuable tool.

Make an audio recording in the notes app

It is possible to add audio recordings to notes, the method is equal to the Dictaphone app with the difference that you can also process a transcription in the memorandum. As follows you can add an audio recording to a note:

Add audio recordings to notes
  • Open the memorandum app.
  • Open a note or create a new one.
  • Tap the paper clip symbol
  • Then choose ‘Take Audio’.
  • Press the red button to start the recording
  • Confirm afterwards with ‘ready’

Please note: to be able to make audio recordings, the memorandum app must have permission to use the microphone in the device settings.

During the audio recording you have the option to temporarily interrupt, resume or stop the recording.

On a Mac you can immediately start an audio recording by clicking on the audio symbol in the button bar. The further effect is the same as the iOS version.

Transcription of audio recording

An advantage of the audio recordings in the memorandum is the possibility to convert recorded audio into text. The notes app can make a transcription of the recording live, so that you can search it at a later time. Unfortunately, this option only works in English, there is (yet) no support for the Dutch language.
