In the health app it is possible to store all kinds of medical data. This can be standard information such as your age, height, weight, etc., but also more detailed information such as your blood type and medication use.
Since iOS 16, it has been possible for glasses and contact lens wearers to add their glasses prescription, also known as an eye prescription. Apple uses this term because the prescription can be used for both glasses and lenses.
Glasses prescription at hand
A glasses prescription describes in detail which glasses or contact lenses you need to see clearly again. Having this information can be useful if you want to order glasses online or if you lose your contact lenses on the beach while on holiday.
With your eye prescription information in your pocket in the Health app, you can immediately start looking for replacement glasses or lenses. The eye test must of course have been recently carried out by an optician.
Add glasses or eye prescription to Health
You can scan an eye or glasses prescription or manually add it to the Health app. If you have a printout of an eye test, you can scan all the data using the iPhone camera. In addition to the strength of the glasses/lenses, you will also find any deviating cylinder, axis and pupillary distances.
- Open the Health app
- Tap ‘Data’ at the bottom right of the screen.
- Select ‘Body Measurements’ and then ‘Eye Prescription’.
- Now tap ‘Add a recipe’.
- Select the lens type (Glasses or Lenses).
- Add a description if necessary.
- Enter the date the due date of the eye test.
- If you want to copy the data from the paper eye prescription, select ‘Add an image’.
- If you do not use automatic data entry, you can enter all data manually on the screen.
- After entering all the information, tap ‘Add’ at the top right to save the eye prescription.
By using the description field you can also save your children’s eye prescription. You can easily adjust or delete a saved eye prescription (glasses prescription) afterwards.
