Having trouble with the fine print on your Mac’s screen? Then it’s time to adjust the screen resolution. iPhone shows how to make text, images and everything else that appears on your screen bigger.
How to adjust screen resolution on a Mac
The screen resolution determines how large text, images and videos are shown on the display. Most people probably don’t need to tinker with the standard resolution, but if you have trouble reading, it’s nice if everything is a bit bigger.
This is how you adjust the screen resolution of a Mac:
- On your Mac, go to the Apple menu and choose ‘System Preferences’;
- Click on ‘Displays’ and then ‘Display’;
- Select ‘Scaled’, then choose the resolution you want.
You can choose between larger text, standard size and ‘More space’. Text is displayed smaller in this case. The buttons also become a lot more compact. Larger Text (on the left) produces the largest type of text, but it leaves less room for windows.
See for yourself what feels good. You don’t have to restart the Mac to notice the effect. If you are using a Mac without a Retina screen, you can choose a resolution yourself in step three. The following applies: the lower the resolution, the larger the text, images and everything else that appears on your screen.

Do you use multiple screens? You can also manually set the screen resolution of these displays:
- Open ‘System Preferences’ from the Apple menu on your Mac;
- Click on ‘Displays’ and then choose ‘Display’;
- Then hold down the Option key when you click ‘Scaled’;
- You should now see additional resolutions for the second screen appear;
- Choose the desired screen resolution from the options.
