Aerial: Fantastic App Brings Apple TV Screensavers to Your Mac

While your Mac has plenty of screensavers of its own, the free Aerial app shows it can do much better. This app brings the Apple TV screensavers to macOS.

Aerial is the best macOS screensaver app

Anyone who has an Apple TV knows how beautiful the screensavers Apple has made for this. Drones have flown over all kinds of beautiful places on Earth: from the city of Los Angeles to a green valley, deep under water and even from space.

These videos aren’t part of macOS unfortunately, but that’s where the Aerial app comes in. This app has downloaded all tvOS screensavers from the Apple TV and makes them available for your iMac and MacBook.

The app simply adds these images to the range of available screensavers and so set them in the same way as you normally do. After installing Aerial, go through the following steps:

  1. Download aerial (link) and follow the steps on the screen;
  2. Click on the Apple icon in the menu bar and go to ‘System Preferences’;
  3. In the next window click on ‘desktop and screen saver’;
  4. Scroll down and click on ‘Aerial’;
  5. Click “Screen Saver Options” for more options to set up Aerial.

Aerial 2.0 gives you more control

Now version 2.0 appears, the largest update to date that makes the app a lot more accessible. From now on Aerial has its own dashboard, in which you can set the screensavers exactly as you want.

For example, indicate which locations you do or do not want to see and decide which ones are downloaded and removed from your Mac to save memory.

In our opinion, that makes Aerial a must for every Mac user who needs a screensaver every now and then. The app is free to download from Github as a full app (link) or as individual screensavers (link). The app works on OS X Mavericks or newer. To take advantage of all the features, you need macSO Sierra or newer.
