Several new AirPods models are expected this year. Not only the AirPods 4th generation and AirPods Max 2, but possibly also the new AirPods Lite will debut. It is best to see this as a cheaper version with old and new techniques.
The AirPods Lite will be a typical SE model in which Apple breathes new life into an old model. Presumably, this version of the AirPods will use the 2nd generation model, but with some improvements.
AirPods Lite
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on a cheap version of AirPods that will be available in 2024 released. This could possibly be an updated version of the AirPods 2nd generation.
The new model can best be compared with the SE series of the iPhone and Apple Watch. Breathing new life into an old model by updating the specifications and making some changes so that, in this case, the AirPods are up to date again.
Specifications of cheaper AirPods
The AirPods Lite, or AirPods SE, will most likely have the same design as the AirPods 2nd generation, but with a USB-C charging case, no Adaptive EQ, no spatial audio, and they are also not sweat and water resistant. The processor may be updated to H2 so that the battery life lasts longer.
Price AirPods SE
What will be the price of the cheaper new AirPods? Ming Chi Kuo thinks you should shell out $99 for the AirPods Lite. This will probably amount to €129 in the EU. Currently, the AirPods 2nd generation are sold with a suggested retail price of €149 ($129). By lowering the price and providing the earphones with a small upgrade, Apple hopes to persuade even more people to buy a set of AirPods.
Availability of AirPods lite
Apple is expected to release the new cheaper AirPods in the fall of 2024. In addition, the AirPods 4th generation and new AirPods Max are also expected. The AirPods 4th generation might get active noise cancellation, touch controls and an H2 chip. The AirPods Max would make the switch to USB-C and hopefully also receive other innovations such as improved noise cancellation and audio functions.
