The AirPods Max have been around for a few years and it’s high time for an update. There are rumors that we will see the AirPods Max 2 in 2024.
‘AirPods Max 2 in 2024’ (and these are the expectations)
According to usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman, Apple will introduce a new version of the AirPods Max at the end of 2024. Gurman also said what we can expect from these AirPods Max 2 in 2024. We have listed things for you.
USB-C
According to Gurman, Apple will replace the Lightning connection with USB-C. This ensures that Apple meets the requirements of Europe. This of course also means that you get a USB-C to USB-C charging cable with the AirPods Max 2, and no longer a lightning cable. Bluetooth 5.3
The latest Bluetooth 5.3 can already be found in the AirPods Pro 2, the iPhone 15 devices and the latest Apple Watch. The standard is also supported on all Macs from 2023. Then it is quite certain that the AirPods Max 2 will also have Bluetooth 5.3.
Bluetooth 5.3 is more energy efficient and the wireless connection is more stable. In addition, the specification also has support for LE Audio (a new standard with a number of improvements), but Apple does not yet have support for this in their devices.
New colours
According to a report from October this year on Bloomberg, the Apple AirPods Max 2 will be available in new colors at the end of 2024. It is not yet known exactly which colors these will be. The headphones are currently available in gray, silver, green, blue and pink. However, you can change the colored ear cushions for more combinations.
AirPods Max 2: this is what we hope to see
The improvements above are nice, but we hope to see more. For example, the storage box for the AirPods Max (if you can call it that) could use a major redesign. There are no rumors about this yet, but there is a patent from Apple that states that a future model of the AirPods Max could have a more standard storage case.
It would also be nice if the AirPods Max 2 got the H2 chip in 2024. This chip is in the current AirPods Pro and ensures better battery life and sound quality. However, according to Gurman, Apple does not yet plan to use the chip in the AirPods Max 2.
A final trick could be the addition of the U2 chip. This chip is already present in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9, among others. This chip makes these devices even easier to find.
The current AirPods have support for Apple’s Find My, but they don’t even have the first-generation U1 chip. Almost all new devices have the new U2 chip and it would therefore be strange not to put this chip in the AirPods Max 2.
