AirPods Pro 2 adjust volume: this is how you use the touch control

The AirPods Pro 2 has a brand new feature: with touch controls you can now adjust the volume. But how do these new touch controls work and how do you use them? iPhoned explains it to you step-by-step.

AirPods Pro 2: now with touch control

Apple’s new AirPods Pro 2 earbuds have received some cool new features. One of the most striking additions is the touch control. This allows you to control all playback functions of the AirPods Pro 2 on the stem.

It takes some getting used to and you have to know how to use the touch-sensitive stems. But don’t worry; iPhoned tells you exactly what you can do with it.

Touch control: all functions at a glance

The stems of the AirPods Pro 2 contain multiple control options. As with the AirPods Pro 1 and AirPods 3, Apple’s new Pro earbuds let you start (or stop) the music by ‘squeezing’ the stem. You can also switch between the noise reduction and the adaptive transparency by pressing the stem a little longer.

But there is another function that is in the touch control of the AirPods Pro 2, because you can now also adjust the volume. You do that in the following way.

Adjust volume on AirPods Pro 2 with touch controls

  1. Put the AirPods Pro 2 in your ear and start the music;

  2. Grab the stem of the AirPods Pro 2 between your thumb and index finger;

  3. Swipe (or swipe) your index finger over the flat side of the stem;

  4. You will hear a soft tap when you have adjusted the volume.

More about the AirPods Pro 2

The most important feature of the AirPods Pro 2 is of course the noise cancellation. It filters out background noise so you can enjoy your music.

According to Apple, this is twice as much as with the first-generation AirPods Pro. In our first impression of the AirPods Pro 2, we are quite positive about the improved noise reduction, but we’ll leave it up to you whether it is really twice as good.

In addition, the transparency mode also returns. This allows you to still hear what’s going on around you, while you’re wearing the earbuds. New with this feature is that the AirPods Pro 2 can reduce too loud noises. For example, you are less bothered by a noisy jackhammer or an airplane taking off.

The charging case also has a few new features and now even has speakers. This makes it easier to find it with the Find My app. You still have to charge it with a lightning cable, but you can also use an Apple Watch charger, MagSafe or a Qi charger.
