The AirPods Pro are extremely user-friendly, but Apple has hidden some functions well. Discover them all and get the most out of the wireless earbuds.
1. Take the fit test
Unlike the regular AirPods, the AirPods Pro come with silicone earplugs in three sizes: S, M and L. Now you can of course get started with fitting earplugs, but Apple makes it just a bit easier with an AirPods fit test.
This function is built into your iPhone as standard and determines independently whether you have chosen the right ear cushions. By playing a sound, the AirPods test whether the earplugs are properly in your ears. You activate this test as follows.
- Put the AirPods Pro in your ears;
- Open the Settings app on the paired iPhone;
- Tap Bluetooth;
- Tap the ‘i’ behind the AirPods Pro;
- Select ‘fit test’;
- Follow the steps on the screen.

2. Quickly adjust noise canceling on your Apple Watch and iPhone
With the AirPods Pro you have three options to set noise cancellation: Noise cancellation, Transparency and Off. You can read the difference in our tip about AirPods Pro sound modes.
By pushing the stems of the AirPods you switch between two modes, but you can also do this quickly on your iPhone and Apple Watch. On your iPhone, you do this by opening Control Center and pressing and holding the volume bar. In the next window, a bar appears below the volume with the three modes.
This works slightly differently on the Apple Watch. As soon as you play music and the ‘Current’ app appears on your Watch, tap the AirPlay icon. In the next window you can switch between the three sound modes by pressing the touchscreen.
3. Check the status of the wireless charging
Just like the AirPods, you can also charge the AirPods Pro wirelessly by placing them on a Qi charger. An orange light will illuminate briefly to show that the battery is being topped up.
To check after a while whether the battery is already full, you just have to tap the box to reactivate the light. If you see an orange color, you have to leave it there for a while, only when the battery is completely filled with a green light.
4. Let AirPods name who is calling you
It is forbidden to use your smartphone on the bike, so this is a handy setting to switch on at that time. With the help of Siri, the AirPods announce who is calling you, so that you can then answer without taking your iPhone out of your pants.
The call is also automatically transferred to your AirPods, so you can continue cycling without making a stop. You activate this function as follows.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone;
- Tap on ‘Phone’;
- Choose ‘Announce caller’;
- Choose ‘Headphones only.

5. Check the battery life
You can check the battery life of your AirPods in various ways. For example, you can ask voice assistant Siri to read the percentage of the two earbuds and the charging case, or check these statistics in the Battery widget in the Today screen on your iPhone. You open this screen by swiping to the right on the first screen of your homescreen.
6. Find your lost AirPod
With the arrival of iOS 13, the Find My app has been updated, so that you can now also find all your other Apple devices. Via the app you can see the last location of the earbuds on a map and you can play a sound to make them easier to find.
You can also find the AirPods (Pro) this way on your iPad and Mac, as long as they are linked to the same iCloud account.

7. Adjust the sensors in the stems
You can activate various settings by pressing the stems of the AirPods Pro. For example, you can quickly switch between Noise Reduction or Transparency mode. Fortunately, you can also adjust these to your own taste.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone;
- Choose Bluetooth;
- Tap the ‘i’ behind the AirPods Pro;
- Under the subheading ‘Press and hold AirPods’ you can set per AirPod what happens when you press the stem.
You have the choice to switch between the three sound modes or to activate Siri. You can also change the duration of the touch via accessibility. You do this by going to Accessibility and tapping AirPods.
8. Share audio with other AirPods
Do you have two sets of AirPods? Then you can listen to the same audio together with someone else on an iPhone or iPad. Handy if you go on a trip and want to hear the same music, or if you are watching a movie together in a room where it is not the intention to do that over the speakers. You activate the function as follows.
- Open the control panel;
- Press share audio and choose the airpods;
- Follow the steps on the screen to share the audio.
