In the app library you will find all the apps that are on your iPhone or iPad and it is actually a kind of library from Apple. Secretly, this overview of apps has quite a few useful functions. iPhoned shows you what you can do with the app library.
What is the app library on iPhone and iPad
You can see the app library on the iPhone and iPad by swiping left a few times on the home screen. The overview with all apps on your device will then appear. This overview with all apps is the app library and you can compare it a bit with a kind of library from Apple, but on your iPhone or iPad.
When you have the Apple library open on your iPhone, you have a number of options. By tapping in the search field at the top you will see an alphabetical overview of all apps. Here it is also possible to search for an app.
The “Suggestions” folder contains apps you use regularly, and “Newly added” lists the apps you’ve recently installed. The rest of the folders depend on the apps you have on your iPhone or iPad. For example, music apps get their own folder and entertainment apps too. It is not possible to change the layout of the folders in the app library.
Remove apps from the app library
It is also possible to remove the apps from the app library. Please note, because this will actually delete the app from your iPhone or iPad. You do this in the following way.
- Open the app library by swiping left a few times;
- Tap with your finger on the app you want to remove;
- Choose the option ‘Delete app’.
Do you want to delete multiple apps in succession from the app library? Then we have the following tip for you. Open the app library on your iPhone or iPad and place your finger on an empty space between the folders. Wait until the apps start to vibrate, then tap the cross next to each app you want to delete and choose ‘delete’.
Restore apps from the app library
The handy thing about the app library is that you can quickly move apps to your home screen. For example, do you have the iPhoned app in the app library on your iPhone and do you use it regularly? Good, but then is it more convenient to put it on the home screen? You do that in the following way.
- Open the app library by swiping left a few times;
- Press and hold your finger on the app you want to restore;
- Choose the option ‘Add to home screen’.
Is the option not there? Then the app is already on the home screen or it is an app that you cannot remove. If successful, the app will appear on the home screen. Here you can still move the app or drag it to a folder.
Incidentally, it is possible to drag the same app several times from the app library and put it on a home screen. For example, you can place the YouTube app on any screen.
Delete App Library from your iPhone or iPad
Do you never use the app library and do you find it annoying that an extra overview page with all apps has been added? Then we have bad news for you. It is not possible to delete the app library from your iPhone or iPad. You also don’t have the option to hide this special library from Apple like the other app screens. It is unknown if Apple will ever change that.
Customize Home Screens
When you use the app library a lot on your iPhone, you actually no longer need the other home screens with apps. This keeps your iPhone and iPad nice and clear. Just set up a home screen with all your most used apps and start the rest from the app library.
To customize the home screens, perform the following steps:
- Tap an empty area on the Home screen with your finger;
- Tap the dots at the bottom;
- Uncheck the box below the page you want to hide;
- Tap Done in the top right.
By repeating the steps above, you can also restore the home screens.
