New images of CarPlay 2.0 have emerged! Apple expands the new generation of CarPlay with widgets. This is what it looks like.
CarPlay 2.0
We’re still waiting for the next generation of CarPlay, but new images of CarPlay 2.0 have now been leaked. It was already clear that Apple will expand the operating system with widgets. The current version of CarPlay does not yet allow you to add widgets. As a user you have little freedom in configuring the software, you can only determine which apps you install and in what order.
This will change with CarPlay 2.0, because it will then be possible to add widgets. The first images have now been leaked and have surfaced in a European Union database. As a result, we know what the new feature will look like on a car’s screen. The widgets look exactly like the components in iOS, iPadOS and macOS. This makes CarPlay more similar to Apple’s other operating systems.

This is what the widgets look like
The screenshots show that CarPlay 2.0 has the same side bezels as the current version of the operating system. On the left you will see a list of applications such as Maps, Apple Music and Settings. The mobile range and battery of the iPhone are visible on the right. The middle section is new, where it is possible to add various widgets from CarPlay 2.0.
The images show what the widgets for the Clock, Weather and Calendar app will look like with CarPlay. These look almost the same as on the iPhone or iPad. The dots at the bottom of the screen show that CarPlay will have multiple screens where you can add various applications and widgets. It is still unclear whether you can also adjust the size of the widgets, as is already the case with iOS and iPadOS.

Release of CarPlay 2.0
Thanks to the new images, more is known about CarPlay 2.0. The widgets are by no means the only new addition to CarPlay 2.0, because the operating system gains many functions. This way, the system is much better integrated into the car, so you can also operate the radio or air conditioning with CarPlay, for example. You no longer need the physical buttons of the car, but can control everything via Apple’s operating system.
While more and more is becoming clear about the design of CarPlay 2.0, virtually nothing is known about the release date of the operating system. Apple announced CarPlay 2.0 back in 2022, but has not released much about the official release since then. The first cars with the new generation of CarPlay were supposed to arrive in 2024, but now we know that Apple has not met that deadline. It is still unclear when CarPlay 2.0 will be available. In any case, the new images confirm that Apple is still working on the new generation of CarPlay.
