Apple of the eye #24: Why Microsoft OneNote is my favorite study app

If you use an iPad or iPhone during your studies, Microsoft OneNote should not be missing in our opinion. In this article I explain what makes this app so good.

Microsoft OneNote iOS is a must for every student

The App Store is overflowing with apps for students. From smart calendars to note-taking apps and ways to put together the most beautiful presentations. Still, it was difficult to find an app that serves as a central place for everything that has to do with your study.

Until I gave Microsoft OneNote a chance and it suddenly became the 24th app in the list of Eyeballs of iPhoned may join. In this section, we occasionally discuss an app that has struck us positively, even if it has been around for months (or years).

Apple of the eye #24: Why Microsoft OneNote is my favorite study app

Initially, I saw OneNote as an appendix to Microsoft Office. An app that you accidentally put on your device when you are installing PowerPoint, Word and Excel. It turned out that I had misjudged this all these years when I installed the app a month ago.

OneNote makes it very easy to keep an overview in your busy student life. Instead of using separate apps and documents for different courses and assignments, OneNote is a large digital ring binder where you can create an infinite number of categories.

For example, you can make a notepad for your entire study and divide it into subcategories per subject. Also create a separate tab for your internship and then you will have a brief overview of everything you have to do.

OneNote comes in handy in all kinds of situations

OneNote has been around for so long that the app is bursting with features. For example, the app supports the Apple Pencil and the second-generation Apple Pencil for the iPad Pro 2018, so you can draw or just write your notes instead of typing. You can quickly add images by dragging them into your notes from another app.

If you’ve been using OneNote for a while, the app quickly fills up with dozens of notes and other documents. That’s when the search function comes in handy, which allows you to search through all your notes at once. So teach yourself from the start to give each note a good name, so that you can find everything quickly and easily later.

I myself use the app on an iPad with a keyboard, to create a clear division in notes that are made during lessons. I also have a folder with all my preparations for internship days.

I also place links to Google Slides there to keep everything at hand. That way I only have to keep up with one app, instead of working in Pages or another writing app where you quickly lose the overview because all the documents are mixed up.

Worth trying

The advantage of OneNote is that you can use the service completely free of charge and the app works on iOS as well as macOS and Windows. OneDrive syncs all your data between these different apps, so your notes are always up to date. All this makes OneNote an app that I can heartily recommend to any student.
