Apple Pay is expanding in the Netherlands, because a bank has finally received support for the payment method. This is the bank!
Triodos Bank supports Apple Pay
Do you prefer to pay with your smartphone, so that your debit card can stay at home? Then we have good news, because Apple Pay is being expanded in the Netherlands. Until now, Triodos Bank customers did not have access to Apple Pay, but that has now changed. Triodos Bank has recently rolled out the function to private customers, so that they can pay with their iPhone or Apple Watch.
Customers must be over sixteen years old, have a checking or youth account and have the Triodos Mobile Banking app installed on their iPhone. Are you a Triodos customer and do you want to activate Apple Pay? Then it is important to update the app to the latest version, so that you can add your digital debit card to your Apple Wallet. Apple Pay available almost everywhere
In the Netherlands, many banks have supported Apple Pay for a long time. Customers of Rabobank, ABN AMRO and ING have been able to use the payment method since 2019. In 2022, ASN Bank, RegioBank and SNS Bank joined them. Now, customers of Triodos Bank can finally use Apple Pay, meaning that in many places you no longer need a debit or credit card at all.
In most supermarkets, restaurants and other places in the Netherlands you can already pay with your smartphone or smartwatch. Of course, your bank must support Apple Pay. Triodos Bank claims it took longer to do so, because the IT systems of the payment cards had to be renewed first. Now that this has happened, Triodos Bank finally offers Apple Pay.
Setting up a digital debit card
The new version of the Triodos Mobile Banking app has now been released, so customers can activate their mobile debit card. Setting up Apple Pay is possible via the Triodos Bank app, or by going to the Wallet on your iPhone. Click on the plus sign at the top right of the screen in the Wallet and select ‘Debit card or credit card’. Search for ‘Triodos Bank’ in the list and scan your debit card to activate Apple Pay.
Triodos Bank customers can then use Apple Pay by double-clicking the lock button on their iPhone. The debit card is secured with Face ID or Touch ID, so that not everyone can access your debit or credit card. Once you have unlocked Face ID or Touch ID, you can pay with your iPhone.
