‘Apple Pencil 3 with magnetic tips is coming’

According to rumors, a new Apple Pencil will be released this month. And what’s extra nice: this Apple Pencil 3 has magnetic points.

Rumors were that a number of new iPads would be released this week, but Japanese website Mac Otakara now says that an Apple Pencil 3 (with magnetic tips) will be released instead.

Last month, ‘Majin Bu’ said on Twitter that there will be an Apple Pencil 3 with magnetic points. He also said that the points would have different shapes. For example, you have a point for sketching and another point for watercolor, for example, in your drawing app.

Now as well MacOtakara writes about the Apple Pencil 3, it seems increasingly likely that an update for Apple’s digital pen will soon be released.

Interchangeable points

The Apple Pencil 1 and Apple Pencil 2 already have interchangeable tips. These are not magnetically attached, but you have to unscrew them. This way you can easily replace the points of a Pencil as desired.

In addition, the Apple Pencil 2 already uses magnets. You click the pen magnetically onto the top of the iPad Air or iPad Pro, among others. This Apple Pencil 2 was announced in October 2018.

Apple Pencil

You still have to charge the Apple Pencil 1 via the Lightning port (or USB-C with an adapter cable). There are already rumors that there will be a variant of this Pencil with a USB-C connection. This first Apple Pencil appeared in November 2015.

So there were three years between the announcement of the first Pencil and the second Pen. It has now been five years since the Apple Pencil 2 was announced, so bring on the successor, Apple (but with the magnetic points)!
