Apple re-releases the EarPods (with cool new features!)

Apple has not only announced new AirPods Pro, new EarPods are also coming. And the wired earphones get some cool features!

New EarPods announced

During the Wonderlust event, Apple announced a series of new products, including the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. In addition, older devices have received a minor update, because Apple is finally making the transition to USB-C. For example, the AirPods Pro 2 with a USB-C connection have been announced, but Apple is also releasing new EarPods.

The AirPods Pro 2 is a minor adjustment, as the case of the earphones has a USB-C port for the first time. Previously this was the Lightning connection, but Apple is finally saying goodbye to that this year due to the new European regulations. As a result, other accessories are also being released with a USB-C connection, including Apple’s EarPods. And that’s not the only thing that changes with the earphones.

Wired earphones now support Lossless

It turns out that the EarPods now also support Lossless audio. That is striking, because even most AirPods do not yet have this technology. With Lossless, the sound quality is much higher, because the audio files are not reduced in size with this technique. This usually happens with wireless audio, causing a lot of quality loss.

Wireless audio files are made smaller by lowering the sound quality. This does not happen with Lossless audio, so the quality of music tracks, for example, is retained. That is a big advantage with Apple’s new EarPods, because music or a telephone call sounds much better wirelessly with Lossless audio.

Apple EarPods cost less than 20 euros

The EarPods are Apple’s first earphones that allow you to listen to Lossless audio, as this is not yet possible with the AirPods Pro 2. The advanced earphones do have support for the technology, but Lossless only works with the Apple Vision Pro. It won’t appear until next year, so for now the AirPods Pro 2 will have to make do without the technology.

In any case, the EarPods support Lossless audio with Apple Music. Spotify does not yet offer the technology, although the function seems to finally be available with Spotify Premium soon. You don’t have to break the bank for the EarPods with USB-C and Lossless, because Apple’s earphones only cost 19 euros. This way you can listen to the best sound quality for less than 20 euros!
