Apple announced the first three Macs on Tuesday evening with the new Apple Silicon chips, called Apple M1. These are the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the Mac mini and the MacBook Air.
In June, Apple announced that it was developing its own ARM processors for future Macs to replace Intel’s chips. On Tuesday evening, the first Macs with these chips were revealed.
MacBook Air
For example, a new version of the MacBook Air appears, which is said to be three times faster than the best-selling Windows laptops. In addition, the SSD in the Air is twice as fast as the predecessor and there is no fan, making the Apple laptop significantly quieter. Thanks to the improved battery, you can browse the internet for about 15 hours or watch 18 hours of videos on a single charge, which is six hours more than the predecessor. You can also video call twice as long with one charge. The CPU in the Air is 3.5 times faster than the predecessor, according to Apple. The Air has a price tag of 1129 euros.

Mac mini
Apple also announced the Mac mini, which is also significantly faster than its predecessor and works for the first time with the Pro Display XDR. In fact, the mini PC is said to be five times faster than the best-selling Windows desktop. In any case, there is no doubt that the device is much smaller than the regular desktop PC. On the mini we find various USB-C ports that support USB 4 and Thunderbolt.
With a price tag of $ 799, the mini is approximately 100 euros cheaper than its predecessor.

13 inch MacBook Pro
Finally, we can expect the 13-inch MacBook Pro, with a 2.8 times faster CPU and 20 hours of battery life, which is 10 hours more than the predecessor. Furthermore, the camera and microphone received an update. The MacBook Pro has a slightly higher price tag of 1,449 euros.
All Macs can be ordered immediately and will be released next week.

M1 chip
In all announced Macs we find the proprietary Apple chip M1. Previously, the Macs contained several chips, but with the M1, the CPU, GPU and neural core engine are brought together in one 5 nanometer chip. The CPU contains 8 cores, making it possible to deliver higher performance and at the same time be more energy efficient. Special hardware must also ensure that battery life is optimized and sensitive data is processed and stored securely.
MacOS Big Sur
The arrival of the new Macs is also accompanied by the new Big Sur operating system. The update of MacOS will be released this Thursday, November 12, well in time for the launch of the three announced devices. Apple announced that the operating system in combination with the M1 chip offers improved security, while your Mac will soon also be able to wake up from sleep mode immediately, just like the iPhone and iPad.
Apple has optimized all of its own apps and other software for the M1 chip in the run-up to Big Sur. In addition, it will itself be possible to run iPhone and iPad apps on a Mac.
