At a time when the boundaries between work and private life are increasingly fading, the company ‘Lumen Industries’ found the solution. Due to a fairly complicated operation (Severance) it is possible to adjust the brain so that employees have no idea of their own work situation and vice versa after their office hours.
Work and private life really divorced
As soon as the employees of Lumen Industries walk into their office, all memories of home disappear and they can perform optimally. Even when they go home they have no idea what kind of work they do. That is because all their memories of their private and working existence are surgically split. That sounds ideal, but is that too?
Mark is a data analyst for the ‘Lumen Industries’ company and is in charge of a team of office workers. Mark is not really happy, his wife died in a car accident, and spends his evenings in loneliness. As soon as he comes to the office, he has forgotten his grief and has no idea of the hopeless existence.

Dark practices
An operation to perform optimally sounds pretty dark, but it doesn’t stop there. The office building is a labyrinth of chilly, white infinite corridors and the hard -hard reign of director Cobel is certainly no fun.
Mark is attacked outside of working hours by a former colleague, who tries to convince him that there are dark practices taking place within the company. Mark doesn’t want to know anything about this in the first instance, but after a while his workplace does raise more and more questions.
Missing colleague
When a colleague, who previously did mysteriously, is suddenly missing, Mark is alerted about this. Then Mark gradually finds out the truth that lies behind the work of the employees of ‘Lumen Industries’, and he starts to realize that the company is much more dangerous than it seems.

Severance: Dark office thriller
- Good dose of mystery
- Intriguing mix of paranoia and black office humor
- Very strong acting
- First episodes are unclear
Severance has an absurd theme full of mystery, black office humor and a good dose of paranoia. For many viewers, the first episodes will feel very unclear and the intention of the series may not be clear immediately. The patient structure ensures that the dark story comes into its own. With the episode, the series becomes stronger, mysterious and the puzzle pieces fall into place.
The very strong acting of the cast contributes to the success of this series. In addition, Ben Stiller has taken control of six of the nine episodes, so his obstinacy is clearly reflected in these episodes.
