The Apple Watch Series 10 is a fact. Although it is an anniversary edition, a completely new design was not included. The new Apple Watch does contain a larger, more energy-efficient display with narrower screen edges.
Furthermore, the Apple Watch series 10 must rely mainly on small adjustments. For example, it is faster thanks to the S10 chip, the water resistance has been improved and Apple has added sleep apnea detection. Time for an overview of all the new possibilities.
Apple Watch Series 10 with custom design
In 2018, the Apple Watch series 4 was launched. This model was mainly characterized by a renewed and thinner design, the original sizes of 38 and 42 mm were also increased to 40 and 44 mm. The Apple Watch series 7 got a larger screen with thinner screen edges. This successful formula can be found again in the series 10.
Larger display, thinner body
The Apple Watch is available for the first time in striking jet black aluminum. The case is first extremely well polished and then anodized in thirty steps. Result: deep glossy jet black. Striking, sleek and timeless.
Apple has also adjusted the screen size of the 10th-generation Apple Watch from 41 to 42 mm for the smaller version and from 45 to 46 mm for the larger variant.
Despite the increase in size, Apple has hardly had to adjust the case of the watch. The larger display has been achieved mainly by making the screen edges narrower and more rounded. Furthermore, the case is thinner than ever, which only improves the wearing comfort.
In addition, Apple has replaced the stainless steel version with polished titanium. This means that this version of the Apple Watch has become much lighter and more stylish. The Milanese loop and link bracelet are also now available in titanium.
OLED wide-angle display
The Apple Watch Series 10 uses a new OLED wide-angle display that’s more visible from angled viewing angles. Each pixel is optimized to emit more light at wider angles. You often look at your watch from an angle, like while walking, typing on a keyboard, or with your hand in your lap. So Apple made the screen on Series 10 up to 40 percent brighter when viewed from an angle, improving the viewability.
S10 chip for Apple Watch
Thanks to the energy-efficient S10 SiP and the advanced display architecture, Apple has managed to control the new screen and keep energy consumption as low as possible. Tasks on the smart watch also work more smoothly and the neural engine is super fast. This is especially useful if you let Siri perform tasks or use the double-tap gesture.
Health features and sensors
This year, the Cupertino company has added some new health functions to the smartwatch. For example, the sleep function has been further expanded with detection for sleep apnea. Furthermore, with this model you can also measure your oxygen saturation, make an ECG, measure your heart rate and receive a warning in case of an unusually high, low or irregular heart rate. The Apple Watch Ultra also has an integrated depth meter and advanced GPS module.
Sleep apnea detection
The Apple Watch Series 10, 9, and Ultra 2 now include sleep apnea detection. The feature works like most other Apple Watch health features: it will alert users to a potential problem and suggest they see a doctor for further testing and diagnosis.
Sleep apnea is a condition in which you experience breathing stops during your sleep, which prevents you from sleeping well. If this is not treated, you run a greater risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and heart problems. From now on, you can receive a warning for symptoms of sleep apnea. And information that you can discuss with your GP.
When worn at night, the smartwatch will track the user’s sleep and breathing patterns to predict whether the person has the condition. The good news is that this health feature will not only be available for the Apple Watch series 10, but also series 9 and Apple Watch ultra 2.

4G Apple Watch
As in previous years, the aluminum Series 10 will be released in a normal and 4G version. The Apple Watch Ultra and stainless steel Apple Watch include standard LTE support. Odidio, KPN and Vodafone, among others, allow you to link your existing data subscription to the Apple Watch thanks to ‘Multisim’. This way, you stay connected to the internet, even when your iPhone is not nearby. Whether other providers will follow this year is unknown.
Old tires remain usable
As with the transition from series 3 to series 4, the bands from older generations will also fit the series 10. Please note that a band designed for an older generation will fit the new Apple Watch slightly less nicely.
Apple Watch availability and price
The Apple Watch series 10 can be ordered from today in the Netherlands and Belgium and will be delivered from September 20. The Series 10 will be available from €449 for 42mm and €479 (was €479) for 46mm, if you want a 4G variant you will pay €120 extra. The polished titanium Apple Watch is available from €799.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 remains available for a starting price of €899 and is now also available in a black titanium version.
