Unlike the Apple Watch Series 10, the Apple Watch Ultra has no new version. This is not so strange, most of the innovations that have been added to the Series 10 come from the Apple Watch Ultra.
This means that the current second generation will still be available for purchase. Apple has added a new colour to the range. From now on, you can also purchase the Apple Watch Ultra in black titanium. In addition, the Ultra 2 benefits from new possibilities thanks to software updates, including sleep apnea detection.
Apple Watch Ultra not updated
During the presentation of the new Apple Watch Series 10, no brand new Apple Watch Ultra was announced. This means that the current second generation will remain in the range. However, there is a new innovation to report for this model, Apple has added a new color to the range.
The case of the ultra is made of high-quality titanium in a natural color. From now on, you can also purchase the Apple Watch Ultra in black titanium. Perfect if you prefer to wear a dark Apple Watch.
Robust design
Two years ago, the tech company launched the Apple Watch Ultra. The robust smart watch is a success, mainly due to the new design with action button and the larger 49 mm screen.
The Apple Watch Ultra has a bold design with an extra large screen and a case made of titanium. This material is exceptionally strong, light and can withstand a knock. With a special surface coating, it is resistant to stains and fingerprints, but retains its natural brushed finish.
The 49mm Apple Watch Ultra features a 1.99-inch LPTO TFT OLED Always-On Retina display, protected by sapphire glass and has 3D brightness. 3000 nits (in direct sunlight). The bright always-on display makes it easier to read the screen in dark environments. The Ultra is dustproof (IP6X) and water resistant up to 50 meters deep!
New features via software update
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 benefits from new possibilities thanks to software updates. For example, the smart watch gets sleep apnea detection, just like the Series 9. In addition, you can also play music on the internal speakers.
Sleep Apnea Notifications
The Apple Watch Series 10, 9, and Ultra 2 now include sleep apnea detection. The feature works like most other Apple Watch health features: it will alert users to a potential problem and suggest they see a doctor for further testing and diagnosis.
Sleep apnea is a condition in which you experience breathing stops during your sleep, which prevents you from sleeping well. If this is not treated, you run a greater risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and heart problems. From now on, you can receive a warning for symptoms of sleep apnea. And information that you can discuss with your GP.
When worn at night, the smartwatch will track the user’s sleep and breathing patterns to predict whether the person has the condition. The good news is that this health feature will not only be available for the Apple Watch series 10, but also series 9 and Apple Watch ultra 2.
Play music through speakers
The Apple Watch Ultra 2nd generation has two internal speakers, the series 10 only has one speaker. Nevertheless, you can now play music from these speakers, useful if you do not have wireless headphones connected. The series 9 or older can only do this for phone calls.
Action button extended
From watchOS 11, you can link even more functions to the action button. In addition, you can hold it down to quickly switch. This means that you can immediately change the action linked to the action button. If you continue to press the button, the siren will be activated.
New watch faces
The Apple Watch Series 10 introduced two new watch faces: Flux and Reflections. Both watch faces are inspired by the new colors for the Apple Watch models. Reflections is specifically designed to take advantage of the new Always-On LTPO3 Retina OLED wide-angle display, which is up to 40 percent brighter when viewed from an angle, making it perfect for testing with the Reflections watch face.
These two new watch faces are also available on the Apple Watch Ultra and other models starting with watchOS 11.
Water temperature sensor
The Apple Watch series 10 has a Water temperature sensor for the first time. This is mainly used during swimming. You can also see the water temperature in the depth app. The Apple Watch Ultra has had this sensor since the first generation.
4G Apple Watch
As in previous years, the Ultra includes standard LTE support for the 4G network. Among others, at Odidio, KPN and Vodafone you can link your existing data subscription to the Apple Watch thanks to ‘Multisim’. This way you stay connected to the internet, even when your iPhone is not nearby. Whether other providers will follow this year is unknown.
Apple Watch availability and price
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 can be ordered from now September in black titanium in the Netherlands and Belgium and will be delivered from September 20. Like every year, the colors of the Apple Watch bands are adjusted to the new season. The Apple Watch Ultra costs € 899. watchOS 11 will be available from September 16 and will add the above software updates.
The new dark Apple Watch will soon also be available at other web shops such as Bol.com, Coolblue, MediaMarkt, Amazon, YourMacStore, Paradigit, Yorcom, Odidio and KPN.
