The 10th generation Apple Watch will be presented this fall. Just like with watchOS 10, Apple might want to unveil a spectacular Apple Watch X with a brand new design. At least that claims Mark Gurman of Bloomberg and other analysts according to anonymous sources.
According to them, the 10th generation Apple Watch would be a justified anniversary edition packed with innovations. We can expect a thinner design, magnetic straps and interesting innovations. We can also expect a more energy-efficient screen and new health functions. We list the current rumors for you.
Apple Watch
The 10th generation of Apple’s smart watch is expected in 2024. The Apple Watch is a success and more and more Apple users have the mini computer on their wrist.
The 10th version promises, just like the iPhone at the time, to be spectacular with the necessary changes, said Mark Gurman. He expects Apple to go all out and adjust the design. It is not yet entirely clear how exactly, but the Watch will in any case become considerably thinner.
A few years ago there was already talk of a new design with flat edges and a sleeker housing. It is possible that the Apple Watch will experience this change. Think of straighter sides, less rounded screen and thinner design. Perhaps the Apple Watch Ultra will become a source of inspiration for this.
More energy efficient screen (new)
According to the Korean website The Elec Apple would like to use a new type of display for the next generation of Apple Watch. This would be an LPTO TFT display that is more energy efficient. The current generation of Apple Watch already has one LTPO screen that makes limited use of TFT technology supplemented with LTPS technology.
This sounds complicated, but it means that the screen is more energy efficient and performs better at lower refresh rates. Currently, the Apple Watch (Ultra) only uses this with the always-on display. According to rumors, Apple always wants to provide the Watch display with this technology so that the watch works more energy efficiently in all situations. Whether this will significantly improve battery life is as yet unknown.
Magnetic straps
The mounting system for the Apple Watch straps has remained the same since the introduction of the watch. By sliding them into the slot you can click them into place in the middle. This may be changed to a magnetic closure on the Watch X.
You will probably still have to tuck the straps into a cutout, but they will be held in place magnetically. This creates more space within the Apple Watch, because the mounting and click system no longer needs to be present. This is more efficient and the freed up space can be used better.
Old straps no longer fit
The disadvantage of this new system is that the current Apple Watch straps may no longer fit the new model. Until now, Apple has always ensured that the straps fit, but with the new magnetic system this may no longer be an issue. Rumors seem to confirm this now and there is a good chance that your old straps can no longer be used on the new Apple Watch.
Health sensors (new)
The Apple Watch series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2024 would also make progress in the field of health and introduce new possibilities. Nasty reportedly would receive these sensors and software for detecting high blood pressure (hypertension) and recognizing sleep apnea.
Blood pressure monitor
It is not the case that you can use the Watch directly as a blood pressure monitor. Instead, the feature shows blood pressure trends over time, similar to how the body temperature feature on the Apple Watch currently works.
If the user’s blood pressure tends to increase, it will receive a notification alerting the user. The feature will also ask the wearer to keep a diary of what happened when their blood pressure spiked. Based on these analyses, you can consult a doctor. Apple is still working on a system that can display exact blood pressure figures, but that still requires several years of research.
Sleep apnea detection
Another upcoming Apple Watch feature is sleep apnea detection. This feature will work in the same way as most other Apple Watch health features: it will alert users to a potential problem and suggest they see a doctor for additional testing and diagnosis.
Bloomberg reports that Apple Watch’s sleep apnea detection feature will track the user’s sleep and breathing patterns to predict whether the person has the condition. Currently, detecting sleep apnea requires a nighttime sleep examination in most cases.
Annual upgrade may be limited
Until now, Apple has released a new Apple Watch every year, but Gurman thinks that this may be a thing of the past with the Apple Watch Internally there is discussion about whether it still makes sense to bring a new model onto the market every year. It would be too difficult to add interesting new features every time.
The Apple Watch Series 9 is a good example of this. For example, only the processor has been updated and a software function has been added, but major changes have not been made. For example, by releasing the Apple Watch once every two years, more innovation could be possible.
