Best iOS Games April 2020
1. iPhone game of the month: A Fold Apart
A Fold Apart tells a story about two lovers: an architect who lands a dream job in the city, and a teacher who doesn’t want to give up school and nature. Therefore, the pair try to maintain their relationship from a distance.
The game is a puzzle platformer, where everything revolves around folding. The player controls one of the two characters as they try to walk from point A to point B. This is only possible if you as a player fold or rotate the world in the right way.
In this way, a fear of one of the two characters is viewed in each level. For example, in one of the first levels, the architect tells that he had a dream that they both lived in the city. Then, through puzzles, it becomes clear that the teacher hates the idea of the city and therefore fears for the future of their relationship.
A Fold Apart isn’t the best puzzle platformer out there, but it’s good, among other things, because only games can tell a story this way. In addition, the decoration of the game is excellent. A nice detail is that at the start of the game you choose which gender the characters have, which makes the story a bit more personal.
The game also comes in extra because of the timing. We live in a time when we can no longer easily see each other, and often have to live far from each other. This makes the story of this architect and teacher something we can all identify with.
2. Anti Pong
Everyone knows Pong: the game in which two players hit a ball back and forth with bats. The goal is to hit the ball behind the opponent’s bat. Anti Pong takes this idea, but does something completely different with it. Instead of hitting the balls, you have to dodge them. The bats in Anti Pong consist of several compartments. As soon as the ball hits a square, it disappears. The player who has no squares left loses.
3. Beyond Blue (Apple Arcade)
Dive underwater and study the extraordinary life that swims around there. In this game you play as a researcher who, with augmented reality glasses and infinite oxygen, has plenty of time to look for dolphins, whales and much more.
It is an educational game, in which you will learn things about how current research is carried out underwater. But above all, it is a beautiful and soothing experience to escape in for a while.
4. Hyperspace Delivery Service
In this retro-looking game, you are tasked with delivering something to a distant planet. A dangerous journey, where the question is whether everyone on your ship will survive. Pay attention to the oxygen and fuel, but also food and other things. It is a surprisingly comprehensive game with different play styles. When you land somewhere, the game even turns into an old-fashioned 3D shooter in the style of DOOM and Wolfenstein.
5. Hue: A color adventure
Hue is a fun puzzle platformer where you change the background color to progress. Is a purple obstacle in the way? Then you also make the background purple so that the obstacle in front of your eyes disappears. Choose the right colors to progress. Please note: the game seems free, but after downloading you have to pay 5.49 euros very quickly to continue playing.
