Or can each human race be distinguished by its genes?
Answer
Hi Wilfried,
All people have the same genes, but for each gene you have different forms or alleles. The collection of alleles determine the genotype of an individual.
Today no genes or alleles have been found that determine someone’s ‘race’. In fact, the differences between people of the same origin are greater than the differences (on average) between people of very different origin.
By taking a combination of a number of different alleles, you can estimate where someone comes from with some chance of success. But all this remains probability and can therefore not serve as ‘proof’.
By the way, races are not ‘segregated’. People are more or less related to each other. When we go far enough back in time, we are all family.
