As sharp as a samurai sword: Seiko Presage Sharp Edged

Presage is Seiko’s watch collection in which modern design and traditional Japanese mastery come together. The new ‘Sharp Edged’ series is the ultimate result of this. Sharply cut surfaces flow together with traditional patterns created with age-old craftsmanship.

Accurate automatic movement

An important reason why Seiko is one of our favorite watch brands is that the movement – the basis of every watch – is always excellent. Seiko produces and tests all timepieces in-house and adheres to strict quality standards.

The automatic movement that powers the Presage Sharp Edged is the 6R35 with 24 jewels. The timepiece is automatically wound by movements of the wearer, but can also be wound manually for a quick start. When the watch is fully wound it will continue to run for up to 72 hours.
Because the watch has scratch-resistant (and anti-reflective) sapphire glass on both the front and back, you can view the timepiece up close.

To set the watch exactly on time, it is possible to stop the second hand. This is special, because usually only possible with quartz movements.

Perfect fit, as sharp as a Samurai sword

In every detail, this new Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series is an expression of Japanese craftsmanship. The case and solid steel bracelet contain many flat surfaces that appear to have been cut with a razor-sharp Samurai sword. These sleek lines make the watch sparkle from every angle. Glossy polished surfaces contrast with a subtle hairline finish on other areas to create a multi-dimensional effect.

The case also has a super hard coating that better protects the case and bracelet against scratches, but also gives a long-lasting shine.

Despite the brutal lines of the watch, it looks friendly and the relatively long, curved case legs guarantee a pleasant fit for the wearer.

Hemp for growth and prosperity

The dial of the Sharp Edged features a Japanese Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern. The hemp leaf was traditionally used as a material for fabrics and the traditional pattern has been used in Japanese design for over a thousand years.

In Europe today we have certain thoughts when we hear the word hemp. But here too, hemp is a material that was traditionally used for making fabrics. The Asanoha pattern has special importance in Japanese culture because it symbolizes rapid, strong growth and was thought to bring good health and prosperity.

The rich texture of the dial’s sharp geometric pattern creates subtle color gradation and exciting shadow effects when light passes over the watch.

Traditional colors for the modern man

The dial of the Presage Sharp Edged watches has a traditional Japanese color in addition to the hemp leaf pattern; Aitets- or indigo-iron blue, and Shironeri, an unbleached silky white.
