At what temperature does a stone or rock melt?

Asker: SILKEN, 16 years old

Answer

The melting point of a rock depends on its composition.

Basalt, for example, therefore has a melting point of around 1000°C, while granite has a melting point of around 1200°C.

But the pressure that acts on the rock also influences the smear point, so stone will smack less quickly if it is deeper in the earth because the pressure is higher there.
