Anyone who owns an iPhone, iPad or Mac with Touch ID can already use this fingerprint scanner frequently. Apple devices with Face ID can also perform tasks using facial recognition. This way you can quickly enter passwords and login details in Safari, among others.
You can also use Touch ID and Face ID to unlock your device, make payments in the App Store or activate Apple Pay. Thanks to the integration in Safari, you can easily and quickly enter your password or username securely.
Secure passwords
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Go to ‘Face ID/Touch ID and passcode’
- Log in with your access code
- Enable the ‘Automatic’ option. enter password.’ in
On a Mac you can set this up via  â–¸ System Settings â–¸ Touch ID & Password. Enable the ‘Use Touch ID to autofill passwords’ option.
Enter passwords with Touch ID or Face ID
Once you have activated the function via the steps above, you can use it. When you visit a website where you have to enter a username and password, you will still get a list of available accounts.
Click on the desired one and these will be filled in automatically, but you must now confirm this by placing your finger on the Touch ID scanner or scanning your face using Face ID. If this does not work, you must enter your password or access code. Only then will the details be filled in and you can log in. It is an extra step, but it makes use extra safe.
Restrict autofill
For example, do you want to automatically fill in usernames and passwords this way, but not credit card details? Then you can manage this on your Mac via Safari â–¸ Menu bar â–¸ Safari â–¸ Settings â–¸ Forms. Check the options here that may be filled in automatically in Safari.
On an iPhone or iPad you can adjust this via Settings â–¸ (apps) â–¸ Safari â–¸ Autofill. Disable the options you do not want to use.
