It must have happened to you that your iPhone is spontaneously connected to another iPhone. Since iOS 17 you can share files with another iPhone user faster by keeping two devices together. Namedrop or AirDrop is then immediately activated to start a transfer. Do you not want this? Then you can switch off devices together.
AirDrop is a function with which Apple users can share wireless photos, videos and files with other Apple devices in the neighborhood, without the need for a physical or internet connection.
Share faster via AirDrop
If you want to share a file, photo, video, website or more via AirDrop, you can do this much faster since iOS 17. By simply keeping two iPhones together while sharing, the recipient is automatically selected and the file shared.
The user does not have to confirm this, because when you consciously keep two devices together, the software assumes that you have the intention to share and receive the file. If the home screen or access screen is active, Namedrop will be activated.
Turn off devices together
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Go to ‘General’
- Select ‘AirDrop’
- Switch off the ‘Bring devices together’ option
A lot of users will be happy with this option, because various iPhone owners find this a disturbing function. Fortunately, you can switch it off automatically. Ideal if you do not want to use Namedrop or sharing parts by keeping two devices together.
