For some time Safari can automatically enter verification codes that come from messages. Such a verification code is sent via SMS and can therefore be automatically entered in the designated field. Since iOS 17, iPados 17 and MacOS Sonoma, Safari can also do this for verification codes from Mail.
Also new is the possibility to automatically delete these verification codes in mail and messages when you used them. This way the software keeps your inbox tidy.
Fill in verification codes
If you have to fill in verification codes in Safari, the software will first check whether you have received a code in messages and mail. If this is the case, you will see a suggestion at the entry field to use this code. On an iPhone or iPad you will find the code at the top of the keyboard.

Clean up verification codes
Since iOS 17, iPados 17 and MacOS Sonoma it is possible to automatically delete these verification codes in mail and messages when you used them.
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Go to ‘Passwords’
- Tap ‘password options’
- Switch on ‘generously on’

On a Mac you can do this via System Settings â–¸ Passwords â–¸ Password Options â–¸ Select ‘Space on’ automatically. Once you have entered the code, your iPhone, iPad or Mac will delete the message or e-mail message.
