The most used chat service at the moment is undoubtedly WhatsApp. Using this service you can send messages to all your friends, family, acquaintances and more for free. All these messages, images, videos, etc. are stored in the WhatsApp app. Anyone who attaches great importance to this would do well to enable the WhatsApp backup.
This makes it possible to save all WhatsApp content through a backup in iCloud. This is useful when you purchase a new iPhone or need to repair your current one. Using the backup, you can then seamlessly transfer all chats to your new or restored iPhone without losing any data.
Set up WhatsApp backup for iCloud
WhatsApp uses iCloud drive to store chats, media and data. Before you can set this up, you must have an iCloud account and iCloud Drive must be active. You can read how to set up an iCloud account here. Then go to Settings â–¸ your name â–¸ iCloud â–¸ turn on ‘WhatsApp’. These steps can be followed from iOS 10.3, if you still have iOS 10.2.1 or earlier you can enable this via Settings â–¸ iCloud â–¸ iCloud Drive â–¸ enable ‘WhatsApp’.
Check and manage WhatsApp backups
- Open WhatsApp
- Navigate to the ‘Settings’ tab
- Select ‘Chats’
- Open ‘Backup chats’

In most cases, backup is now enabled. If this is not the case, you can now do this manually. If necessary, tap ‘Back up now’ to immediately back up to iCloud Drive. At the bottom you will find some other options such as saving videos and when the backup should be made.
Restore WhatsApp backup
If you ever need to reinstall WhatsApp or on another device, you must first log in to iCloud. Then start WhatsApp and follow the steps on the screen. At some point you will be asked if you want to restore a backup. Choose a desired one and the data will be synchronized again.
