For some time, WhatsApp has been automatically cleaning up the badge for unread messages. This means that on the home screen with apps you can no longer read how many unread messages you still have in the app. As soon as you open the application, the badge is hidden, even if there are any messages that you have not read.
Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, indicates that they do this consciously to reduce digital pressure and to ensure that you are less triggered to continue to use the application. However, this can also be confusing because you think there are no unread messages. Fortunately, you can always switch on the badge again and you can ensure that it is no longer automatically hidden.
Wish whatsapp badge on the home screen
For some time, WhatsApp has been cleaning up the badge automatically when you open the application. The app knew the full home screen badge so that it will be zero again. This means that unread messages are no longer reported after you have opened the application and you have not read them.

When you receive a new message, the badge starts to count again, regardless of the number of unread messages. You can disable this behavior of WhatsApp, so that the badge is always visible and is not deleted after opening the app.
Turn off badge
- Open WhatsApp
- Navigate to ‘Settings’
- Go to ‘reports’
- Turn off the ‘Wishing Bagde’ option

From now on the number of unread messages is always displayed in the badge on the home screen at the Whatapp symbol, even after you have opened the application. This way you are always informed when you still have to view and/or answer a message.
