Belgian provider brings 5G to more customers with a limit of 100 Mbps

Proximus and 5G

In a text message to Belgian customers of the Mobile Flex subscription, Proximus has announced that from 1 July 2022 they can use 5G at no extra cost. Only one particular statement is striking, namely that users can surf at a maximum of 100 Mbps. This is the full message:

“Dear customer, from 01/07/2022 your “Mobile Flex” subscription will change name and become “Mobile Flex S”. Good news: in your subscription you will be able to use our 5G network, at no extra cost, at a maximum speed of 100 Mbps. Have fun surfing! Your Proximus Team.”

No lower speed

Today in many places in Belgium you can easily achieve speeds of more than 100 Mbps with the provider’s 4G connection. There was also no additional information on the Proximus website, so Androidworld.be contact the service provider. No, Proximus does not intend to reduce bandwidth for customers, but 5G will work in places in Belgium where there is an outdated 4G infrastructure. Environments where the speed of 4G is currently below 100 Mbps. On the other hand, customers continue to use 4G in places where it works faster compared to the 100 Mbps of 5G.

On the other hand, customers who want to use a 5G connection without this speed limit can take out an Unlimited subscription with the provider. For this you pay at least 29.99 euros per month at Proximus and you can expect speeds of up to 500 Mbps. After one year, the provider increases the cost to EUR 42.99 per month. Proximus deployed in Belgium in 2020 the first steps with its 5G network, but in the meantime the provider is building a full network from.
