Countless new apps appeared in 2017 as well. iPhoned takes a different approach this year and lets each editor choose one app. In our opinion, these are the very best iOS apps of the year. Today it’s Rick’s turn with Apollo for Reddit.
Rick’s best app of 2017: Apollo for Reddit
By now, there are tons of apps available to read Reddit, including the official app, all of which are more than fine. Yet Apollo is head and shoulders above that. This is not only due to the extensive list of features that the app contains, but also due to the sleek finish of the app, and that Apollo feels like a real iOS app.
Apollo works in the same way as Apple’s own apps. For example, by swiping left or right you can vote on a post, save it or share it via the Share menu. In the list of subreddits, you can swipe left to delete them, the same way you delete an email or anything in the Settings app. Apollo also uses tabs at the bottom, something that is done in more iOS apps.
It is not surprising that Apollo integrates so well with iOS. The creator, Christian Selig, did an internship at Apple, where he learned everything about making apps. Reddit is one of his most visited sites, but the existing apps weren’t good enough for him. He decided to develop a better app himself, which also suited iOS.
Apollo is free to use, but a Pro version is also available. It costs $ 3.49 and adds a number of unmissable extras for Reddit fans. For example, the Pro version can automatically turn on night mode for you, and you can post posts on Reddit yourself with Pro. You can also set up gestures with Pro to move through the site faster, and it is possible to set up multiple accounts.
