Like most major antivirus software companies, Bitdefender has developed its own identity protection service called Digital Identity Protection. Accessible via the Bitdefender Central online management platform, it is distinguished by a graphical interface and remarkable ergonomics.

Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection is available via a separate subscription or integrated into the publisher’s top-of-the-line Bitdefender Premium Security Plus version. Unlike other competing services, it is not available in the form of dedicated software, but as an online service accessible via the famous Bitdefender Central portal. It allows you to monitor personal data leaks on the dark web and take necessary measures if detected. At a time when acts of cybercrime are increasing, online identity protections are becoming increasingly essential tools. This is one of the ways security suites differ from free antivirus programs.
Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection: how to use the service?
Once you subscribe to Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection, you need to create or open your Bitdefender Central account for free. Depending on your subscription plan, you must then activate the service by clicking on the “Activate” button in the “Digital Identity Protection” menu or enter the activation code consisting of 10 characters provided during your purchase.
Once your subscription is activated, click on the Digital Identity Protection tab, then click on the “Data Monitoring” link at the top right of the screen. In the menu that opens, you can add one or more email addresses (up to 10) by clicking on “Add an email address” and entering your address. You can also provide your first and last name, as well as telephone numbers (up to 5) by selecting the “Add telephone number” button.
Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection: how it works
Once the information to be monitored is added via the “Data Monitoring” tab, Bitdefender monitors both the public web and the dark web 24/7. When it detects data breaches or identity theft attempts, it displays alerts on the service dashboard, and sends you a weekly email report with details of the data breach and advice on the measures to be taken. The Digital Identity Protection interface allows you to view data leaks, where they came from, and the dates they occurred. The service also indicates the threat level in the “Dashboard” tab.
The “Identity theft” tab also offers the possibility of receiving an email alert in the event of an attempted identity theft on a social network. By clicking on the “Data Brokers” menu, you can also check whether your personal data is for sale with resellers. As its name suggests, the “Event History” tab displays a chronological list of events relating to the monitoring of your digital identity. Without being intrusive, Bitdefender’s identity protection service allows you to continuously monitor data breaches.
Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection
Overall, Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection is a competent service but has its limitations. The interface is easy to use, but work remains to be done on the way in which the data is delivered to the user. We still regret the absence of certain additional features, which could allow it to be a more complete identity protection software.
