From now on you can block artists in Spotify, so that they no longer show up in playlists and search results. That is how it works.
This way you can block Spotify artists
Blocking an artist on Spotify makes it look like he or she is not on the music service. Spotify goes very far in this regard: you will not see a blocked musician in top lists or playlists. You can’t even look up or listen to music anymore.
This also applies to the smart playlists, which are composed based on your taste, such as the Discover Weekly, Daily Mix and Release Radar. The only exception is when an artist is playing on someone else’s song.
It goes like this. Before you follow the steps below, we recommend that you install the most recent version of the app. This way you can be sure that the position will also appear with you.
- Open the Spotify app;
- Enter the name of an artist in the search bar;
- On the artist page, press the three dots at the top right of the screen;
- In the next screen, tap ‘Don’t play this artist again’;
- The artist is now blocked.
You can disable a block again by following the same steps and then tapping ‘remove’ next to the blocking icon.
The timing of this new position is striking. In recent weeks, Spotify has been criticized for refusing to remove R. Kelly’s music from the service. The artist is accused of sexual abuse and violence, as a result of which record labels have already dropped Kelly.
