Old-fashioned board games are fun, but did you know that the App Store also has a lot of board games? We list the best ones.
Board game apps for iPhone and iPad
Now that everyone is at home because of the coronavirus, there will come a time when you have already cleaned and cleaned everything in the house and you have completely watched your streaming services. Then it’s time to pull out a board game. Is your collection not sufficient? Then there are plenty of mobile versions of board games in the App Store. We have collected the best ones for you.
1. Catan Universe
The well-known Catan game is also available on your iPhone or iPad. With this you can play the original board game, the card game or one of the expansions of this classic. It is basically a 3D animation of the board game. So you also see cards on the table and you have to place small villages and streets on the board. It’s up to you to negotiate as well as possible and collect the most points.
2. Rummikub
You can also easily play Rummikub via the app. In the well-known family game you make combinations of colors and numbers. You play alone, against the computer or with online opponents from all over the world. The app already sorts your numbers for you, by color or by number combination. In a private game you invite family or friends to play against each other. They can then play against you on their own iPhone or iPad.

3. Ticket to Ride
Ticket to Ride is based on the board game of the same name. The aim is to build as many train routes as possible. You do this by collecting cards and placing the train routes on the game board. Users are only allowed to claim a small piece of rails at a time, so you have to play it tactically. You can also thwart each other by taking over routes from your opponents. The longer the route, the more points you get. The game can also be played online.
4. Risk
In the official Risk app, you play online against friends and strangers alike. The rules are exactly the same as with the well-known board game: you try to conquer as much of the world as possible. The classic game is free, other expansions and variations are behind a paywall. No opponents nearby? It is also possible to play alone.
5. Monopoly
Buy streets, negotiate and build hotels: be the best businessman or woman in this classic. Via the app you ‘just’ play on a 3D board with the pawns you are used to. Extra fun: you can add each other in the app and play together on your own tablet or iPhone. You can also compete online against strangers from all over the world. No Internet? Then it is also possible to play together on one iPad or iPhone.
6. Cluedo
Become a real detective in the official Cluedo app. Find out who committed a murder, where and with which murder weapon. The game board in the mobile version is exactly the same as the classic game, with the same rooms. You put crosses, checks or question marks on your notepad when you receive a clue. You can also play this game online against friends or strangers.
